I have never been very creative, at least I don't think I am. Some recent posts by others have made me think of things I enjoyed doing when I was young. Drawing was not one of them. I'm just not good at it. See?
I tried to draw a dog on there, but that was really pathetic. So I gave up. Color is one thing I have always been fascinated with though. I could color my ass off! Or fingers off. I don't know how many boxes of crayons I went through as a child.
Have you ever seen artwork that looks like this and wondered how the hell it is worth money?
My mother called when I was in the middle of this creation last night. As usual the conversation started off with, "Hey, what are you doing?" Ummm, did I really want to tell her I was coloring? I thought for a second about making something up, but then I figured. Okay, why would I waste a lie to my mother over not wanting to admit I was coloring? So I told her. Of course, she laughed at me and somewhere in the conversation she ended up asking, "So are you trying to tell me you want coloring books for your birthday?" Uh, no! And between me and you, I have two coloring books. Yes, I'm that mature!
I told her about this little habit I did when I was young, and she doesn't remember it. Apparently, I was a closet creative artist. Maybe I just got bored with coloring in Mickey Mouse and all the Disney characters over the years. Who knows? Regardless, I spent 3 hours last night on this masterpiece for you all while I was catching up on some things on my DVR. That's 3 hours I'll never get back, right? Yeah, Mom didn't really understand why I was doing it either.

Oh, well. Happy Friday, everyone! I get the joy of cleaning house tonight because my family is coming to visit tomorrow to take the old washer and dryer to other family members who need them. So I'm making quesadillas for them. Which means my house has to not just be clean, but "mom clean." Just how I wanted to spend my Friday night! And yes, I know it's my fault for waiting until the last minute, but that's how I roll.

When I had my galbladder removed, Dad called to see if I needed anything and I told him I wanted coloring books. I stayed in bed for two days coloring pictures for like everyone I know.

I FREAKING LOVE COLORING. For me, there's a certain "magic time" that happens every night when I'm too tired to trust myself with truly productive things (cleaning, sewing, crocheting, cooking, photoediting, blogging...I'm not Suzy Housewife, I swear) but I'm not tired enough to go to bed. Watching TV alone bores me. So I color and watch TV. I know, right? Magic time. A-mazing.
I can only draw boxes, that's it, nothing else. Oh, and I always stay in the lines.
Those colour, scribble drawings remind me of early school days too - we always had to make them and I loved it. I draw and paint a lot anyway nowadays, but often I kind of have the urge to just make those colour things again. :)
I used to do that, too!!! I would get so pissed off when I didn't have enough colors to make a nice kaleidoscope. =P

I got a kick out of your artwork! I love abstract filled with a lot of color. My artwork back in the day used to get me sent to the counselor's office lol (too much "red")
I used to do that squiggly thing and then colour it in!!! It was so much fun.
You can buy colouring pads with those types of patterns in them. They are very addictive, I have a few at home!

I used to do stuff like that a lot with box blobs. It's hard to explain, I should blog about it soon.

I'm a die-hard doodler...I actually got counseled by a supervisor once for doodling during a meeting...she said she found it disrespectful...I explained that I found her counselling me about it equally disrespectful...and I continue to doodle during meetings :-)
Chief... You are much more creative than I am, and the Chief I grew up with. I don't ever remember Dad doodling at all! :)

My kids and I do this all the time - well at least the youngest two [18 and 13] and they still get coloring books and crayons at Christmas.
I miss ::sniff:: getting mine too.
I have another drawing game I play[ed] with them. Take a piece of paper [or 5 depending on how may people you have] and draw a random line on each one. It can be jagged, bent, squiggly, straight - then give one to each person and tell the to draw a picture incorporating the line. I learned it in kindergarten and we still love playing it.
Nothing wrong with keeping a bit of kid in us, eh?

It's why they invented the camera, so that adults no longer have to destroy their reputation while showing their shocking inability....although having seen some photos that get posted, you have to hope that the person responsible is not allowed near a crayon or paint brush....

Great cartoon.When I took the NYPD test one of the things you had to do was draw a picture of your self next to your house,It was a psych evaluation.I would love to have given them picture of me towering over my house with a crazy grin on my face.Oh well in the next life.
