Friday foolishness

First of all, I wanted to welcome all of my new followers. I've gotten a little kick in my numbers this week, and I am LOVING it. I was kinda in a rut there for a while. I'm sorry some of you get to start out with this post, but what the hell. It's Friday, right? Cocktails will be served shortly, so pull up a chair.

I have never been very creative, at least I don't think I am. Some recent posts by others have made me think of things I enjoyed doing when I was young. Drawing was not one of them. I'm just not good at it. See?

I tried to draw a dog on there, but that was really pathetic. So I gave up. Color is one thing I have always been fascinated with though. I could color my ass off! Or fingers off. I don't know how many boxes of crayons I went through as a child.

Have you ever seen artwork that looks like this and wondered how the hell it is worth money?
For some reason, as a child, I started making my own creations like this. I don't know if I ran out of coloring books, or if some teacher showed me, or if it was just something some friends and I came up with. But for some reason it came to mind last night. Have any of you ever done this? You just take a piece of paper and a marker and let your hand go crazy on it. Then you color in the spaces. It really looks something like this.
Am I bizarre or just really more creative than I thought I was? Okay, I know I'm bizarre, but I mean about this particular past-time.

My mother called when I was in the middle of this creation last night. As usual the conversation started off with, "Hey, what are you doing?" Ummm, did I really want to tell her I was coloring? I thought for a second about making something up, but then I figured. Okay, why would I waste a lie to my mother over not wanting to admit I was coloring? So I told her. Of course, she laughed at me and somewhere in the conversation she ended up asking, "So are you trying to tell me you want coloring books for your birthday?" Uh, no! And between me and you, I have two coloring books. Yes, I'm that mature!

I told her about this little habit I did when I was young, and she doesn't remember it. Apparently, I was a closet creative artist. Maybe I just got bored with coloring in Mickey Mouse and all the Disney characters over the years.  Who knows? Regardless, I spent 3 hours last night on this masterpiece for you all while I was catching up on some things on my DVR. That's 3 hours I'll never get back, right? Yeah, Mom didn't really understand why I was doing it either.

Oh, well. Happy Friday, everyone! I get the joy of cleaning house tonight because my family is coming to visit tomorrow to take the old washer and dryer to other family members who need them. So I'm making quesadillas for them. Which means my house has to not just be clean, but "mom clean." Just how I wanted to spend my Friday night! And yes, I know it's my fault for waiting until the last minute, but that's how I roll.

You don't give yourself enough credit. Those two very tall and thin girls will be thanking you personally when they are the winners of America's Next Top Model.

You put my drawings to shame! I am going to embarrass myself once again this morning with a bad drawing in the post I am putting up later this morning.

When I had my galbladder removed, Dad called to see if I needed anything and I told him I wanted coloring books. I stayed in bed for two days coloring pictures for like everyone I know.

Your drawings are way better than my drawings. Happy Friday.

I FREAKING LOVE COLORING. For me, there's a certain "magic time" that happens every night when I'm too tired to trust myself with truly productive things (cleaning, sewing, crocheting, cooking, photoediting, blogging...I'm not Suzy Housewife, I swear) but I'm not tired enough to go to bed. Watching TV alone bores me. So I color and watch TV. I know, right? Magic time. A-mazing.

I can only draw boxes, that's it, nothing else. Oh, and I always stay in the lines.

Those colour, scribble drawings remind me of early school days too - we always had to make them and I loved it. I draw and paint a lot anyway nowadays, but often I kind of have the urge to just make those colour things again. :)

I used to do that, too!!! I would get so pissed off when I didn't have enough colors to make a nice kaleidoscope. =P

Have a good weekend with your company, darlin'.~ :)

I got a kick out of your artwork! I love abstract filled with a lot of color. My artwork back in the day used to get me sent to the counselor's office lol (too much "red")

I used to do that squiggly thing and then colour it in!!! It was so much fun.

You can buy colouring pads with those types of patterns in them. They are very addictive, I have a few at home!

JG.. You are so right! Why didn't I think of that? Hell, now I'll have to give them names and crap.

SD.. I hardly think so. The whole stick person porn watching was hilarious though!

JM.. You didn't color one for me! Seriously, I think that's awesome.

OT.. Happy Friday! And thanks.

Nicki.. I kinda enjoyed coloring while watching TV so I might make a habit out of it. Great idea!

Mrs. Tuna.. That's basically what I did, and my boxes are always warped. :)

Assassin.. Maybe that's where I picked that up then! It was fun anyway and brought back memories.

Katsidhe.. I'm so glad I'm not alone with that. Yeah, I was being real careful about trying to get my color balance just so! :) You have a great weekend, too!

Thundercat.. Welcome! I don't doubt that after reading some of your blog today. LOL But I'm glad you liked mine.

lyndylou.. My kindred spirit, I knew you would be with me! So glad to hear I had company in this creative outlet. I didn't know you could buy those though! I'll have to look for them.

I used to do stuff like that a lot with box blobs. It's hard to explain, I should blog about it soon.

You draw stuff way better than I do! I like your style. Oh, paint-by-numbers are fun, too. :-)

Krissy said...

Julie.. Are you kidding me? My flowers look like they are on crack. :) I bet yours are much better, but thanks.

AD.. Remind me when you do! I'd love to see it.

Soapbox.. Scribble and coloring is good style! I like YOUR style for saying so. I think I'd rather rely on writing to earn me a living. :) I have never done paint by numbers, but my sister used to.

I'm a die-hard doodler...I actually got counseled by a supervisor once for doodling during a meeting...she said she found it disrespectful...I explained that I found her counselling me about it equally disrespectful...and I continue to doodle during meetings :-)

Krissy said...

Chief... You are much more creative than I am, and the Chief I grew up with. I don't ever remember Dad doodling at all! :)

Krissy, since you're a military brat and I'm a military retiree I have to ask you if you which is more intimidating, a "Mom Inspection" or a "White Glove Inspection"?

Dang, I shouldn't post a comment before I wake up, have some coffee, and proofread it. :-)

I love your colourful creation :) It's fun to discover that I'm not the only stick-person drawer, but also a colourful abstract drawer :) Have a nice family day, and stress about it too much. You've put so much effort into your cleaning - I'm sure it's perfect! Enjoy your weekend!

My kids and I do this all the time - well at least the youngest two [18 and 13] and they still get coloring books and crayons at Christmas.

I miss ::sniff:: getting mine too.

I have another drawing game I play[ed] with them. Take a piece of paper [or 5 depending on how may people you have] and draw a random line on each one. It can be jagged, bent, squiggly, straight - then give one to each person and tell the to draw a picture incorporating the line. I learned it in kindergarten and we still love playing it.

Nothing wrong with keeping a bit of kid in us, eh?

Hope you have a great weekend.

I colored the other day and it was awesome. Now I want to do it again!

It's why they invented the camera, so that adults no longer have to destroy their reputation while showing their shocking inability....although having seen some photos that get posted, you have to hope that the person responsible is not allowed near a crayon or paint brush....

Krissy said...

Don.. Aren't they one and the same? My mother notices every little thing, and she's a cleanaholic!

Bz.. Thanks, Bz! Another partner in our non-art? :) Hope you had a great weekend!

SkippyMom.. Wow, that is great that you do those types of things with your kids. I think you need to tell Santa that someone needs to take care of that crayon and coloring book thing in your stocking! Hope you had a great weekend.

Tame One.. It's pretty cool, huh? I enjoyed it anyway.

BlackLOG.. Welcome to my blog! That is an all too true statement.

Great cartoon. When I took the NYPD test one of the things you had to do was draw a picture of your self next to your house,It was a psych evaluation.I would love to have given them picture of me towering over my house with a crazy grin on my face.Oh well in the next life.

Krissy said...

Tom... Now I wonder what you drew! If mine is better on a psyche eval, there is something seriously wrong with your drawing, dear. LOL

I colored those exact pictures as a kid too Krissy. There must be more to our talents than meets the eye! Very cool.

Barb... Thanks for telling me that! I knew we were connected. :)
